Speeding truck knocks downpedestrians in Darbhanga dist
DARBHANGA, July 3 -- Many people were reportedly knocked down by a speeding truck across a 6-km stretch in Darbhanga town on Tuesday night, triggering panic among commuters.
Eyewitnesses said the truck hit pedestrians and cyclists at multiple spots. As videos emerged showing locals chasing the vehicle, a mob eventually caught up with it in Rahamganj locality under Laheriasarai PS and violently beat up the driver and cleaner till police arrived.
Police from six stations rushed to the scene to disperse the crowd. Driver Saurabh Kumar (30), a native of Khagariya district, and cleaner Suraj Kumar (25), hailing from Bhagalpur, were hospitalised at DMCH.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO- Sadar) Rajiv Kumar said, "The truck was seized and the injured driver and cleaner were receiving treatment. The driver may have been intoxicated or mentally unstable. All angles were being investigated," he stated.
The SDPO, however, maintained that so far no case of public injuries had been independently verified and neither any complaint lodged in this regard.
"We will record the statement of injured driver and cleaner to ascertain the cause of the incident," he added....
