ARA, May 14 -- In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly killed his father over a land dispute in Devghar Moti Tola under the jurisdiction of Jagdishpur police station in Bhojpur district on Tuesday, police said. Police further said that the victim was identified as Jaiprakash Singh (50), a resident of Devghar Moti Tola, while the accused as Vishnu Kumar. The incident occurred when the victim was working in his field. The motive behind the murder is said to be a dispute over 35 kattha of ancestral land, jointly owned by Jaiprakash Singh and his brother, Om Prakash Singh. Om Prakash told police that his brother had two wives - Sima Devi (first wife, married in 1998) and Kiran Devi (second wife, married in 2015). Vishnu Kumar, the alleged killer, is the son of Sima Devi, the first wife. Om Prakash claimed that Sima Devi did not have cordial relations with the victim and had even filed a case against him in the past. After 17 years of marriage, Jaiprakash Singh married Kiran Devi, with whom he had two daughters and a son. The dispute escalated when Vishnu Kumar allegedly sold seven kattha of land in November 2024 without the family's consent. This led to friction with both his father and grandfather, Shiv Parshan Singh, who had even lodged a case against him. Efforts were made to resolve the dispute four days before the murder, but the talks failed. Following the murder, Vishnu Kumar and his mother Sima Devi fled the scene and are currently absconding. Jagdishpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Rajeev Chandra Singh said that during a search of the accused's house, police recovered a country-made pistol, along with a blood-soaked T-shirt and half pants. Raids are underway to apprehend the accused....
