Son declares living father dead to secure govt job; FIR lodged
DARBHANGA, June 26 -- In a curious case of job-related fraud, a man in Bihar's Darbhanga district attempted to secure a government job under the compassionate appointment quota by falsely declaring his living father as 'deceased', a government official informed.
The accused, Vikas Kumar Yadav, had applied for a government job by claiming to be the dependent son of the 'late' Vishnu Dev Yadav, a Class-IV employee in the Road Construction Division (RCD), Darbhanga.
A complaint regarding the authenticity of the death certificate submitted by Vikas was lodged by one Madanlal Thakur, prompting the district magistrate (DM) to order an immediate inquiry.
Earlier, on May 30, during a routine meeting of the District Compassionate Appointment Committee (DCAC), under the chairmanship of the DM Kaushal Kumar, approval was granted for compassionate appointment of Vikas, a dependent of the 'late' Vishnu Dev Yadav.
It was unanimously recommended that he be appointed under Group 'C' at grade pay 1900, level-2, subject to the submission of the required certificates.
The fraud was, however, exposed when the DM directed the superintendent engineer, RCD Darbhanga, to investigate the complaint and take action as per rules.
The engineer concerned reported that Vishnu Dev Yadav had appeared in person, stating that a false claim of his death was made to secure a job on compassionate grounds.
During the investigation, it was also discovered that the death certificate used to support the job application had been fraudulently issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths in Kaluahi block of Madhubani. Even after re-verification, the document was falsely validated, indicating possible administrative negligence or collusion.
Further scrutiny revealed that Vikas Kumar Yadav had acted in conspiracy with his mother, Shanti Devi, and other family members to obtain the job through fraudulent means. The appointment recommendation was initially forwarded by the executive engineer of the RCD Darbhanga without proper verification, a lapse that the DM described as a grave administrative failure.
Taking strong note of the incident, the DM, during the meeting of DCAC, held on Tuesday, revoked the job recommendation dated May 30, 2025, and ordered strict legal and departmental action. He directed the registration of an FIR against Vikas Kumar Yadav, Shanti Devi, and others involved in the submission of forged documents....
