JAMUI, Aug. 3 -- A portion of the old and defunct Barmasia bridge over the Ulai river caved in on Saturday morning due to continuous rainfall in Bihar's Jamui district. The bridge had already been declared unsafe, and traffic movement on it had been officially stopped after two of its pillars were found damaged. Despite the closure, locals-mainly pedestrians-continued to use the bridge for convenience. "No one was on the bridge at the time of the collapse and so, no casualties were reported," said a local resident. Residents added that a new bridge is currently under construction parallel to the damaged one to ensure safer connectivity. The Barmasia bridge served as a crucial link connecting more than ten villages, including Chany, Chitochak, Barmasia, Mahapur, Tumhapaharh, Parasi, and Longai in Jhajha block. District Magistrate Navin confirmed that the old bridge had been closed to traffic last year and that work on the new bridge over the Ulai river is underway and expected to be completed within the next few months for the overall convenience of the local people....
