Six awarded life term for killing septuagenarian
GAYA JI, June 19 -- A Gaya court on Wednesday sentenced six men to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a septuagenarian, who was accused of practising witchcraft.
The court of First Additional District and Sessions Judge Lavkush Kumar held Yogendra Bharti, Dilip Paswan, Raghunandan Paswan, Kamal Paswan, Vijay Paswan, and Dharmendra Paswan guilty of murdering their co-villager Munshi Das by throwing him off a rooftop at Pakri village under Suhail police station area on September 5, 2017, said in-charge public prosecutor (PP) Abdussami.
The accused, all family members or close relatives, were allegedly steeped in superstition and blamed the elderly man for practising black magic that they believed caused the death of a woman in their family. The victim's son, Ram Jiwan Das, had lodged a case following the murder.
Police later filed a charge sheet, and the charges were found to be true during the trial. The court sentenced each of the six convicts to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 on each, the in-charge PP added....
