Siwan road rage: Main accused killed in encounter
PATNA, May 4 -- Siwan police gunned down Sonu Yadav, main accused in Harsh Kumar murder case during a police encounter at Laddi village under Jamo police station in Siwan district on Sunday morning.
Police said on Saturday night, police received a tip-off that Yadav was fleeing towards Barharia police station area.
"Upon receiving information, the police team cordoned off the area and launched a search operation and vehicle checking drive. The incident took place around 4 am when the police and the accused came face to face near Laddi under the Jamo police station area. Police surrounded Sonu during a vehicle check and asked him to surrender, but seeing himself surrounded, Sonu Yadav opened fire on the police team," said Siwan superintendent of police (SP) Puran Kumar Jha
"During the retaliatory action, police shot Sonu in the chest, killing him. After the postmortem examination, police handed over Sonu's body to his family. Yadav was involved in murder of Harsh Singh, nephew of former MLC and BJP leader Manoj Kumar Singh in Siwan, said a police officer.
On April 29, around 6.30pm, Sonu allegedly fired indiscriminately at Harsh Kumar, and his brother-in-law Chandan Kumar Singh after the duo got into an argument with him over car parking.
The incident took place near the Lakshmipur Andar Dhala overbridge in Nagar police station area of Siwan district. Harsh died in the incident and Chandan is still undergoing treatment.
The police had earlier shot one of the accused, Chhotu Yadav, in both legs and arrested him. Sunil Yadav, a criminal, was also arrested.
