SAMASTIPUR, June 5 -- A heated dispute between siblings over a minor issue took a violent turn on Wednesday morning in Tara Dhamaun village under Patori police station area of Samastipur district, when a man allegedly shot his own sister during an argument, police said. Police further said that the incident occurred when Sumita Devi, who had come to her maternal home to visit her mother, tried to intervene in a quarrel between her two brothers - Dularchand Ram and Kanchan Ram. In a shocking turn of events, Kanchan reportedly went inside his house, brought out a pistol, and opened fire, hitting Sumita in her right thigh. Family members immediately rushed the injured woman to Samastipur sadar hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical. Narrating the incident, Dularchand Ram told reporters that the family comprises four brothers, and their ancestral land had already been divided. On Wednesday morning, Dularchand was installing a privacy cover (tatty) around a government-installed handpump near his house to allow women to bathe in privacy. Kanchan Ram objected to this, leading to a heated argument. Sumita, witnessing the altercation, attempted to mediate and calm both brothers. However, in a sudden fit of rage, Kanchan allegedly fired the shot that injured her. Confirming the details, Patori deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Birendra Kumar Medhavi said, "Sumita Devi was shot while trying to intervene in a family dispute. The prime accused, her younger brother Kanchan Ram, fled the scene after the incident." Efforts are underway to record the victim's statement. An FIR will be lodged based on the complaint.....
