SI suspended for beating Class 9 student in Bettiah
BETTIAH, June 10 -- Bettiah's Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr. Shaurya Suman, suspended a sub-inspector (SI) for allegedly unleashing brute force on a Class IX student of a private school, after the student allegedly caught him consuming liquor in Bettiah on Monday.
The development came after a video footage surfaced showing the sub-inspector, Anand Sharief Minch, posted at the Manuwapul police outpost, brutally assaulting the minor student at Manuwapul in West Champaran on Saturday evening.
"The action has been taken following a review of the video, which shows him mouthing obscenities and physically assaulting a person," reads a police statement.
When contacted, the student said that he lives in the vicinity of police officer Anand Sharief Minch's residence. "My only fault is that I saw the police officer consuming liquor while I was on my way to bathe in the evening. He taunted me and, under the influence of liquor, lost his cool. He then donned his uniform and started misbehaving with me, hurling filthy abuses," the student said.
"The conduct of the police officer is indeed unbecoming. But then, the rule of good governance ('sushasan') prevails, and this action underscores that nobody is above the law," said Nishant Kumar Pandey, State Secretary of the Labour & Technical Cell, JD(U)....
