SI caught, accepting washing machine as bribe
PATNA, May 15 -- The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Wednesday arrested a sub-inspector of police for accepting a washing machine and cash as bribe, officials said, adding that the arrested SI, identified as Mithlesh Manjhi, was posted at Asaon police station in Siwan district.
The VIB team recovered a washing machine worth Rs.19,800 and Rs.20,000 in cash from Manjhi when he was accepting the bribe from a complainant Chandan Kumar Yadav, a resident of Shahsarao-Pasraha village. This marks the 20th trap case of the year and the 27th case overall registered by the VIB in 2025.
The trap was executed under the leadership of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rajan Prasad Singh. In his complaint submitted to the VIB headquarters on May 4, Yadav had alleged that the SI had demanded a bribe in exchange for removing his name from a case and extending help in preparing the case diary.
According to VIB officials, the SI was apprehended in front of a nursing home located on Chakia-Bindusar Road. He was taken to the VIB headquarters in Patna for interrogation and will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Muzaffarpur. Further investigations and searches are underway....
