PATNA, July 17 -- Station house officer (SHO) of Patna's Gandhi Maidan police station, Rajesh Kumar was put under suspension for negligence during investigation in the prominent businessman Gopal Khemka murder case. Soon after the incident, family members of Khemka had raised questions over the delayed arrival of police around 1.30 am on the fateful night in which the incident had occurred around 11.35pm. Chief minister Nitish Kumar had taken cognizance regarding delayed arrival of the police on spot and had instructed to take action against erring police officers. Khemka was shot dead by unidentified criminals near his house Ramgulam Chowk under Gandhi Maidan police station on July 4 night. The suspension was ordered by Patna's IG Jitendra Rana on the basis of the report submitted by Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma, who found major lapses in law and order maintenance and also found lapses in prompt action and monitoring in the Gandhi Maidan area during the incident. The IG said, "I ordered for suspension of Gandhi Maidan SHO Rajesh on charge of dereliction of duty for his failure in collecting information. The action was taken on the basis of a report submitted by the Patna SSP," he added. Meanwhile, Patna police arrested two accused, mastermind Ashok Saw and shooter Umesh Yadav in connection with the murder. They are interrogating them at an isolated place for further investigation after they were taken on 5-day police remand from the SDJM court.
