SHO, driver arrested accepting bribe: Cops
SAMASTIPUR, July 20 -- A Station House Officer (SHO) and her driver were caught by the Bihar Vigilance Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs.20,000 in Samastipur district on Saturday.
The arrested SHO has been identified as Putul Kumari of Mahila thana (women police station), officials said.
The trap was laid after a complaint was filed by Rajeev Ranjan Singh, a resident of Chhatauna village, who alleged that the SHO had demanded a bribe to settle a complaint against him without registering an official case.
According to vigilance officials, a woman named Pooja Kumari from the same village had submitted a petition in Mahila thana accusing Singh of misconduct. Without formally registering an FIR, SHO Putul Kumari sent a notice summoning Singh for questioning. Although the notice was dated July 1, he received it only on July 7 and appeared at the police station the next day.
Singh alleged that during his visit on July 8, he was asked to pay Rs.40,000 to avoid further police action and harassment by local officials. After negotiations, the demanded amount was reportedly reduced to Rs.20,000. The bribe was to be delivered through the SHO's driver, Guddu Kumar, at a pre-decided location near the police station....
