BHABUA, Aug. 10 -- A shepherd was killed and his flock of 300 sheep looted by robbers who arrived in two pick-up vans from Uttar Pradesh in the Adhaura forests of Kaimur district on Friday, police said. The naked body of the victim, with multiple wounds, hands and feet tied, and cloth stuffed in the mouth, was recovered from the Sikia Madiya forests near Gamharia village under Adhaura police station on Friday evening. The deceased, identified as Ramayan Pal (55) of Pihra village under Bhagwanpur police station, had been living in a hut near Gamharia village to graze his sheep. The location is about 100 km southwest of the district headquarters in Bhabua. According to police, Pal was last seen at his hut on Wednesday afternoon. On Friday, his younger brother, Sudarshan Pal, arrived with rations and found both his brother and the sheep missing. Police were informed, and the body was later found about 2 km from the hut. His clothes were recovered from the nearby bushes. Sudarshan said his brother had no known enmity and was brutally assaulted and killed after putting up stiff resistance to protect the flock. Some villagers told police they had seen two pick-up vans leaving the forest on Wednesday evening but did not suspect a robbery at the time. Kaimur Superintendent of Police (SP) Hari Mohan Shukla said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under SDPO Upendra Kumar to probe the case. While tracking the criminals' trail, police recovered three injured sheep from Doria and later found 49 sheep near Kanjiari turn on the Adhaura-Robertsganj road. Both locations fall under Manchi police station in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, about 14-16 km west of the murder site. The SP said the three sheep were likely injured after falling when the robbers' vehicle jolted over a speed-breaker near Doria. The 49 sheep are believed to have been left behind as they could not be loaded onto the vans and had followed the looted herd's route. All recovered sheep have been handed over to the victim's family....
