Sheohar's Nagar Parishad chairman held in murder case
BETTIAH, Aug. 25 -- Sheohar Nagar Parishad chairman Vijay Kumar Singh was arrested late on Saturday evening by East Champaran police in connection with a 14-year-old murder case.
Sikarahana Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Uday Kumar said that the arrest was made on the basis of a court warrant related to the 2011 killing of Mohammed Salim, a fish trader, at Baiganiya Chowk under Dhaka police station limits in East Champaran.
"In all, ten people have been named accused in this case. Singh, who is also the chairman of Nagar Parishad, has been arrested and other legal formalities are being completed," the SDPO said.
Based on the confession of shooter Amit Kumar, police said Singh had conspired with two of Salim's business partners - Jahur, son of Sipahi Miya, and Naseer, son of Jafarul Hadan - to eliminate him.
However, Singh's wife, Shilpi Devi, termed the arrest a political conspiracy ahead of the upcoming polls in the state....
