several Voters outrage over changing polling booths
PATNA, Nov. 7 -- Several electors were left annoyed over changing polling booths that forced them to travel long distances from their homes in Patna sahib.
A majority of voters whose names had been shifted to other polling booths were irked by the replies of the polling staff and booth agents of various parties and many even returned home, said people in the know.
Sushil Poddar, an educationist and his family were annoyed when they reached Marwari high school to cast their votes. "My name and wife's names were not mentioned in the voters' list. I was shocked as we were casting our vote at Marwari high school booth at City Chowk for several years. Many voters, especially women, had come to the polling booths in which they had cast their votes in the last elections but were shocked to know at the last moment that their names were missing or they had been shifted to another polling booth at Katra Bazar Malsalami," he added.
He said, "And now our polling booths have changed to Katra Bazar, which I do not know. We could not cast our votes due to negligence of the election officials concerned. They should check it. We do not know how they shifted our booth when we have been staying here for the past several years. Several voters faced a similar problem in polling booths. However, the booth for my children was not changed as they cast their votes in Marwari high school," he added.
On the other hand, women showed great enthusiasm for voting. Many women started reaching the polling booths as early as 7.30am. "My first priority was to first cast a vote, then have breakfast as it was a great festival of democracy," said Shakuntla Pandey, a retired school teacher.
DSP-2 Patna City, Dr Gaurav Kumar said, "I personally visited all polling booths at Patna sahib and conducted peaceful elections as there was no report of any untoward incident."...
