BETTIAH, May 11 -- Several trees were destroyed after a major fire broke out in the Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran district, forest officials said on Saturday. According to officials, the fire started around 8 pm on Friday near the Valmiki Vihar hotel in the Valmikinagar forest range. "The fire incident was reported yesterday evening and was brought under control. As of now, there is no active fire reported from the field,"said Piyush Barneal, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO-2). "The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained," he added. Officials said the blaze had spread over a vast stretch of land. Forest fires are a recurring issue in the reserve, particularly during the dry season from February to May. Just last month, a fire had broken out near Mandanpur in the reserve, affecting nearly 20 acres of forest land....
