Seized charas found replaced with bricks and stones in East Champaran, probe ordered
BETTIAH, May 15 -- Muzaffarpur Railway Superintendent of Police (SP) Vina Kumari has ordered an inquiry into the shocking incident in which a consignment of seized narcotics, produced in court on May 6, was found to contain bricks and stones instead of charas in East Champaran district, officials said on Wednesday.
Speaking to Hindustan Times over the phone, the rail SP said, "This is an extremely serious matter and strict action will be taken against those involved. The investigation will determine how the sealed charas was replaced with bricks and stones and identify the culprits."
The incident led to major embarrassment for Sagauli railway police during a court hearing in Motihari on May 6.
A sealed bundle containing 24 kilograms of charas-seized at Sagauli railway station on March 5-was brought to court and opened before the magistrate, only to be found filled with bricks and stones.
The charas consignment was originally seized in the presence of executive magistrate-cum-Sagauli Circle Officer (CO) Kundan Kumar.
The narcotics were properly weighed, sealed, and handed over to the Railway Police at the time of seizure. Following the court debacle, railway police have registered an FIR and launched a probe into the tampering.
Further investigation is underway.
