Scribe's septuagenarian mother found murdered in Patna
PATNA, July 20 -- A 70-year-old woman was found murdered in her house at Adarsh Nagar locality falling under Phulwari Sharif police station area on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Shanti Devi, mother of an employee of a Hindi daily newspaper. At the time of the incident, she was alone in her first floor house. The matter came to light on Saturday around 7am only after her son Nalini Kant Sharma, who found that his mother was still sleeping. He arrived on the first floor where the glass of the main gate was found broken.
His mother was found lying on her bed and a pillow kept on her mouth. Sharma immediately informed the police as well as family members about the incident.
Family members found that a gold chain and ear rings of the victim were missing while her almirah was broken open. The criminals took her cash and ornaments from the spot and fled before her murder.
"Police recovered her body from a room of her residence and sent it for post-mortem examination. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of murder. The exact cause of the incident is not known yet," Patna City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh told reporters. Preliminary investigation suggests that the killers knew the woman.
