SASARAM, May 20 -- A Station House Officer (SHO) was injured when a mob of around 50-60 individuals from a particular community attacked the Sagar Thana outpost in Sasaram town on Monday, police said, adding that the attack was allegedly triggered by the police's refusal to hand over four accused persons involved in the murder of an 18-year-old youth, Shahbaz. "Shahbaz had been missing since May 13. His family had lodged a missing person complaint at the Town police station on May 16 after failing to trace him, "police said. Following the incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and personally monitored the case. The four accused-identified as Vikram alias Tamatar, Bittu Kumar, Rahul Kumar, and Shahbaz's friend Dilshad Alam-were arrested on Sunday. Following sustained interrogation, the accused led police to the body of Shahbaz, which was recovered from a deep drain in the early hours of Monday. The body was subsequently handed over to the family after post-mortem. During interrogation, the accused claimed that Shahbaz was aggressive in nature and had formed a gang. A few days prior to the incident, he and Dilshad had allegedly assaulted Tamatar, Rahul, and Bittu after they refused to serve him toddy (palm wine) free of cost. The trio had reportedly been harbouring a grudge and were planning to take revenge. On the night of May 13, the three accused encountered Shahbaz and Dilshad around 1 a.m. in a secluded area, where they allegedly found Shahbaz raping a mentally challenged girl. A dispute ensued, turning into a violent confrontation. Shahbaz was struck on the head and chest with a heavy stone, resulting in his death, police said. While Dilshad fled the scene, the three others hid the body and the weapon in the drain. The stone used in the murder was also recovered. Around 10:30 a.m. on Monday, while Shahbaz's family was returning with his body after the post-mortem, the mob attacked the police outpost in protest. Dalmianagar Station House Officer (SHO) Sushant Kumar Mandal sustained injuries in the heavy stone-pelting. After getting information, the SP reached the spot, and controlled the situation. Three individuals have been arrested so far, and efforts are underway to identify the remaining attackers through video and CCTV footage. A case has been registered on charges including attempted murder of police personnel, obstruction of government duty, and rioting....
