PATNA, Sept. 9 -- Bihar's deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday criticised the Congress-led INDIA bloc's vice-presidential candidate, former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy, over his recent meeting with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad. Choudhary termed Prasad a "convicted criminal" in the fodder scam and said seeking his support ahead of the September 9 polls was "a blot on democracy." "A former apex court judge and V-P candidate going to meet a convicted criminal is shameful for democracy, it is indicative of democracy in danger," Choudhary told reporters at his official residence on 5, Deshratna Marg in Patna. The election will see Reddy contesting against NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan. Targeting the RJD patriarch and his family, Choudhary alleged they were "symbols of anarchy and corruption," adding that Prasad could only get an award for "theft and corruption." On the recent damage to the Ashok Stambh (national emblem) in Jammu and Kashmir, the deputy CM accused the RJD of trivialising the issue. He reminded that the Ashok Stambh, rooted in Bihar's Magadh region during emperor Ashoka's reign, represented both Bihar's and the nation's pride. "Would Lalu Prasad and his family treat the matter lightly or fight for Bihar's honour? Will the Congress, RJD and Left demand strict action under anti-national laws?" he asked. He said the BJP delegation had already met the J-K governor, demanding stern action against those "hurting Indian civilisation, culture and symbols." Choudhary also criticised the opposition for not apologising over abusive remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother during the Congress' recent Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga. The deputy CM further hit out at RJD and Congress workers for distributing enrolment forms for a non-existent "Mai-Behan Maan Yojana," which allegedly promised Rs.2,500 monthly assistance to women in Bihar. Calling it "unconstitutional," he said, "You should have first included it in your manifesto. Who gave you the right to ask people to fill forms? In a democracy, you cannot do something by overlooking the government. The police will take action." On reports of multiple enrolments during the Election Commission's special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Choudhary said the BJP, too, had flagged some irregularities. "Action will be taken against all those with multiple enrolments. Aur jo ghuspaithi hoga, ussko bhi bhagayenge (whoever is an intruder will also be chased away)," he asserted. Rejecting claims that the BJP had "captured" chief minister Nitish Kumar, Choudhary said that Kumar had been an NDA leader for 29 years and would continue to remain one. He described the BJP and JD(U) as "natural allies"....
