Samastipur: Infuriated bizmen down shutters over loot, firing incidents
PATNA, May 20 -- Hundreds of angry traders came out on roads protesting police failure in nabbing the miscreants involved in the grocery store loot and firing incident, where two brothers Abhishek Anand (48) and Anurag Anand (45) were grievously injured late on Sunday at Dalsingsarai sub-divisional headquarter of Samastipur. The state grocery traders' association, which had called for the protests, received support from other businessmen who kept their shops closed at Golapatti and Sardarganj localities on Monday.
An angry mob lynched two robbers after they shot and injured the brothers--while trying to loot their grocery store. One of the brothers (Abhishek) suffered a bullet injury in his belly and is battling for life at a private hospital in Patna, while the younger one was injured in his leg and is out of danger now.
Police said the incident occurred at a noted grocery shop on Sardarganj - Keota road under Dalsinghsarai police station area. Four to five people on two motorcycles arrived around 8.50 pm and tried to loot the store. The brothers resisted them while two of the robbers fired on them. The gunshots attracted the attention of locals and they ran towards the store. The accused tried to flee, but two of them were caught and severely thrashed. The police later reached the place of occurrence and recovered the bodies.
"Two or three culprits managed to escape, while two others identified as Prem Paswan (20) of Muzaffarpur and Kumar Mahto (21) of Samastipur were lynched to death. One of the killed persons has a bullet injury as well while second was thrashed with bricks and stones. The bodies have been sent for postmortem," said Samastipur superintendent of police (SP) Ashok Mishra, adding that Prince was recently released from jail in a theft case. Police were also trying to ascertain who shot one of the robbers and why, he added.
Police have registered two separate FIRs against named and unknown accused. One of the FIRs has been registered on the statement of Anurag Anand while second FIR was registered on the statement of police against the unidentified mob. Police are also trying to identify the other accused....
