SASARAM, Aug. 7 -- A case involving the embezzlement of Rs.2.30 crore in government funds has come to light at the District Transport Officer (DTO) office in Sasaram. The fraud was detected during a departmental audit of accounts from the financial years 2021 to 2025, an official said. DTO Ram Babu, in a written complaint to the Town police station in Sasaram, has sought the registration of a case against four former employees of his office who have since been transferred. According to the DTO, the audit revealed that programmer Anil Kumar and data-entry operators Akshay Kumar, Ajay Kumar Singh, and Anil Kumar failed to deposit funds into the government treasury. Instead, they allegedly kept the money with themselves. The embezzled amount pertains to Motor Vehicle (MV) taxes and challans collected at the DTO office counters managed by the accused. Following the discovery, the DTO issued notices to the accused, directing them to either explain the discrepancies or deposit the pending amounts in the treasury. However, none of them appeared, except data-entry operator Ajay Kumar Singh, who returned only Rs.16 lakh, the DTO said. All four accused had been transferred from Sasaram and are currently posted in Patna, Khagaria, Ara, and Kaimur districts....
