PATNA, Jan. 17 -- Rohini Acharya, the outspoken daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, once again stirred speculation about deep divisions within Bihar's most prominent political family with a sharply-worded social media post that many see as a veiled attack on her younger brother and opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. The post, shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, came just hours after Tejashwi convened a high-level meeting with RJD parliamentarians to analyse the party's disappointing performance in recent elections. In the no-holds-barred message, Acharya wrote (in Hindi): "Pretending to conduct a review is far less important than genuine self-introspection and accepting responsibility. Only after summoning the courage to deal with the identified 'vultures' who have dug in around one's own circle will any review carry real meaning. As for the rest - well, the public knows and understands everything." Though she stopped short of naming names, political circles in Patna immediately interpreted the references to "vultures" and "one's own circle" as pointed criticism of Tejashwi and a section of his close aides, some of whom have been accused by party veterans of wielding disproportionate influence. The timing has raised eyebrows. Tejashwi's meeting focused on introspection following the RJD's string of electoral setbacks, including the 2025 assembly polls where the party managed to save the opposition leader's chair despite high expectations of dislodging the NDA. Sources present at the meeting said that the discussions were candid, with several leaders urging stronger organisational reforms. Yet Acharya's intervention has reignited talk of lingering bitterness in the Yadav's family. This is hardly her first public expression of frustration. After contesting and losing the keenly watched Saran Lok Sabha seat in 2024 against BJP veteran Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Acharya had declared that she was quitting active politics altogether. In emotional statements at the time, she spoke of feeling let down by the party's campaign machinery and hinted at personal disappointments within the family. Reports then suggested she had gone so far as to distance herself from day-to-day family political affairs, choosing instead to focus on her life away from the spotlight - she divides her time between Delhi and Singapore, where her husband practices medicine. Those close to her say the kidney donation she made to her father in 2022 had deepened her bond with Lalu, but electoral politics left her disillusioned. Her temporary withdrawal was widely seen as a signal that she wanted no further part in the rough-and-tumble of RJD power struggles. Today's post, however, suggests that while she may have stepped back from the arena, she has not stopped watching it closely. Supporters on social media hailed her for "speaking truth to power," while critics accused her of undermining party unity at a vulnerable moment. Hashtags referencing the Yadav family feud quickly began trending in Bihar. RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari declined to comment officially when approached, with one senior leader saying off-record, "Family matters should stay within the family." Tejashwi Yadav has not responded publicly to the post so far. For a party trying to rebuild ahead of future battles, the episode is an unwelcome distraction. Lalu Prasad, still the emotional centre of the RJD despite health challenges, has often played the role of peacemaker in past sibling and generational tensions. Whether he intervenes this time remains to be seen....
