Rohini Acharya's post sparks debate over Tejashwi seating
Patna, Sept. 19 -- A controversy was triggered over the Bihar Adhikar Yatra of RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Thursday when an image of the party's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav sitting in the front seat of the bus in which Tejashwi was travelling was shared by RJD chief Lalu Prasad's second daughter, Rohini Acharya, on her Facebook account.
The move sparked speculation that the growing clout of Tejashwi's close confidant has caused some resentment among members of the RJD's first family. The controversy began when Acharya, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2024 parliamentary polls from Saran, shared a post on her Facebook account by a party supporter. The post featured an image of party MP Sanjay Yadav sitting in the front seat of the bus used by Tejashwi during the ongoing yatra. Sanjay Yadav, a sitting Rajya Sabha MP of RJD, is considered close to Tejashwi and is also seen as one of the party's top poll managers.
The post carried a cryptic note suggesting that the seat reserved for the top leader of the RJD should not be occupied by "someone else," unless that person considers themselves above the party leadership.
"People in Bihar, including us, are accustomed to seeing Laluji or Tejashwi sitting in the front seat. If someone else sits there, we cannot accept it," the post by Alok Kumar read. Acharya shared this post on her Facebook account, leading many to speculate that it signalled disapproval from Lalu's second daughter over the way the party MP chose to sit in the front seat.
Incidentally, Lalu's elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, has on many occasions in the past taken oblique potshots at the party's Rajya Sabha MP and has referred to "JaiChands" in the party, alleging that some of Tejashwi's loyalists had created a rift between the two brothers. Tej Pratap was expelled from the RJD a few months ago.
Meanwhile, Acharya did not comment on her shared post but later tagged pictures of various leaders, including a woman leader of the party sitting in the front seat of the Adhikar rath, on her Facebook account in the evening.
"The RJD and Laluji have always championed social justice and the empowerment of deprived classes. It is always a pleasure to see people from these marginalised communities taking the front seat," Acharya's post read...
