Road blocked, shops closed over killing of 2 kids near Patna
PATNA, Aug. 2 -- A large number of angry residents, along with local CPI-ML MLA Gopal Ravidas, blocked the Patna-AIIMS-Janipur Road and disrupted traffic for nearly two hours on Friday to protest the alleged killing of two minor siblings - a brother and sister - in Nagwan village under Janipur police station limits in Phulwarisharif.
The victims, identified as Anjali Kumari (14), a Class 10 student, and her brother Ansh Kumar (10), a Class 4 student of a private school, were allegedly murdered and their bodies set on fire inside their home around noon on Thursday by unidentified miscreants.
The children were the daughter and son of Lallan Kumar Gupta, a clerk in the Election Commission office in Patna. Their mother, Shobha Devi, works as a security guard at Patna AIIMS.
According to locals, someone with ill intent might have entered the house from the rear. It is suspected that the intruder was recognised by the children, following which they were killed and their bodies burnt. Interestingly, household items such as the almirah were untouched, and the charred bodies of the children were found on the bed, suggesting the assailant may have set fire to the mattress to destroy evidence. The incident sparked outrage in the area. Shopkeepers downed shutters in protest, and the roadblock was lifted only after Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma arrived at the spot and assured swift action. Following his assurance, normalcy returned and shops reopened.
Police have detained several individuals for questioning in connection with the incident....
