KISHANGANJ, Aug. 22 -- In a major development ahead of the upcoming state Assembly elections, RJD's district president in Muslim-majority Kishanganj, Mohammad Qamrul Hoda, has resigned. Hoda was interestingly also the first MLA of AIMIM in Bihar who had resigned from the party to join the RJD in 2023. In his letter to Bihar RJD president dated Thursday (August 21), he said, "I resign from the party post and make myself free from all party related responsibilities." He came into limelight in 2019 when he defeated the Congress nominee in the Kishanganj bypoll and became the first MLA of AIMIM in Bihar. However, in 2020, he lost to the Congress candidate. His party, AIMIM, however, had won five seats in the Seemanchal. Four of them deserted the party and switched to the RJD in 2022. Hoda followed suit a year later. Though it is not clear whether he will return to the AIMIM or join Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj, his departure from the RJD may not bode well for a party that claims the largest share of Muslim votes, especially as the assembly elections are drawing near and political equations remain highly uncertain. Local observers feel that a section of RJD leaders are not happy with the induction of ex-JD-U MLA Mujahid Alam into the RJD. "More RJD leaders will quit the party in Kishanganj ahead of the assembly elections and they are in touch with AIMIM and Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj," an RJD leader told HT, with request not to name him. Bihar is going to face elections after few months....
