KATIHAR, Aug. 6 -- Even as their leader, leader of Opposition in Bihar assembly Tejashwi Yadav, is embroiled in a row over his claim of him not being included in the draft list prepared through Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the local unit of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Katihar has launched a drive to help voters to help find their names in the list. Voters in Bihar have been reported to be struggling to access their voter listing through submission of EPIC (Election Photo Identity Card) on the portal of the Election Commission of India. RJD leaders allege that many voters shown dead or shifted elsewhere are actually alive and present at their addresses. Thus, they say, they deserve to be included as voters and their names must be in the list. RJD leader Samarendra Kunal while launching the campaign alleged that the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who are purportedly assigned to help voters access the draft list, are themselves confused about the procedure of finding names and they either don't take interest to know it properly and help the voters, especially in rural areas. "After our leader (Tejashwi Yadav) raised the issue of missing his name from the list, his name was later added. Out of .185 million voters whose names were deleted from the list in our district (Katihar), many are alive and thus have be legitimate voters," he said. He further added, "We are giving tips to the people to search their names with the help of mobile phones and we are also organising workshops in this regard so that we soon get the exact figure of the people whose names have not figured in the list." He said, "We are actually doing the work of the government." When contacted, Katihar sub divisional officer (SDO) Alok Chandra Choudhary said, "Every BLO and supervisor has the list and they are in close contact with people, giving them all the information. In this vast work of helping voters, all the political parties have been urged to cooperate with the EC through BLAs (Booth Level Agents) and they should do so." He, however, said that he was not aware that any political party (RJD) was running a voter awareness campaign. In Katihar, a Muslim-dominated constituency, the names of .185 million voters are missing from the roll published after the first phase of SIR. It's one of four districts in Seemanchal region -- Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj. They together have around 7,62,101 deletions from the draft roll because of three reasons cited by the EC -- death, permanent shifting of address, or voter registration at two places....
