PURNIA, May 8 -- In an orchestrated move to challenge the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Bihar's politically significant Seemanchal region, Jan Suraaj party founder and strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor launched a scathing attack on the RJD during his public outreach in Kishanganj on Wednesday. Addressing a gathering in the Muslim-majority district, Kishor accused the RJD of failing the community over the past three decades. "The RJD has done nothing for the development of Muslims. They've only kept the community burning the kerosene of their lantern," he said, invoking the party's election symbol. He alleged that RJD has continuously exploited the fear of the BJP to secure Muslim votes. "They've made Muslims believe they must vote out of fear, not choice. But in reality, they are burning themselves to give light to others," he said. Kishor urged the community to vote for their rights and future, not under duress. "Vote for your children's future, not for the faces of Nitish Kumar or Lalu Prasad," he told the crowd. Recalling the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), Kishor said that both were political tools used to influence the West Bengal elections and benefitted neither Hindus nor Muslims. He also raised concerns about the amended Waqf Act. Reiterating his political stance, Kishor announced that Jan Suraaj would not ally with any party and would contest all 243 seats in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Later in the day, Kishor addressed another public meeting at Amaur, the constituency of Bihar AIMIM president Akhtarul Iman, and interacted with local residents-mostly Muslims-in Baisi and Dagarua. His visit comes close on the heels of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi's rally in Kishanganj on May 3, where Owaisi accused the RJD of engineering a split in AIMIM and poaching four of its MLAs. "They [RJD] will be left begging," Owaisi had declared. Seemanchal, comprising the districts of Purnia, Katihar, Araria, and Kishanganj, holds 24 Assembly seats. Of these, 11 MLAs belong to the Muslim community. While BJP and JD(U) have no Muslim MLAs in the region, Congress has four, RJD has five (after absorbing four from AIMIM), and AIMIM and CPI(ML) have one each....
