Revenue employee in VIB net with Rs.1.5 lakh in Gaya
PATNA, Oct. 17 -- A revenue employee was arrested on Thursday by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) while accepting a bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh in Gaya, officials said.
The arrested employee, identified as Raju Kumar, posted in Dumaria block of the district, was caught red-handed following a complaint by one Mohammad Anwaar Khan. According to VIB officials, a trap was laid in Dumaria - a Maoist-affected area about 100 km from the Gaya district headquarters on the Palamu (Jharkhand) border.
The complainant alleged that Raju Kumar had been demanding money for several months to process the Parimarjan of his land - a routine administrative procedure for correction of land records. Following verification, the VIB registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Khan said he had applied online for the mutation of his property, but the application was rejected without any explanation.
When he met Raju Kumar to inquire about the issue, the official advised him to first apply for Parimarjan, which deals with corrections in the digitized Jamabandi register. Thereafter, Kumar allegedly demanded Rs.1.5 lakh to complete the process. "I applied for Parimarjan and then approached the Vigilance Department. Today, the revenue official was arrested," Khan said, expressing relief over the swift action.
VIB Director General Jitendra Singh Gangwar said the trap operation in Dumaria block was successful.
"The accused revenue employee was caught red-handed, and Rs.1.5 lakh was recovered from his possession. This is the 92nd FIR registered by the bureau so far this year, compared to only 15 FIRs last year. It is also the 76th trap case of the year," he said.
After the arrest, the VIB brought the accused to Patna for further interrogation. Officials confirmed that he would be sent to jail following completion of legal formalities....
