PATNA, Aug. 10 -- In a move aimed at sanitising the land records and helping land holders in getting any discrepancy in the record of rights (jamabandis) corrected, Bihar's revenue and land reforms department will launch a mass campaign for the same across the state from August 16 to September 20. Additional chief secretary, revenue, Dipak Kumar Singh said that the mass campaign is aimed at settling four different revenue matters of land holders -- like if jamabandis of property owners is recorded offline but not online or if any land holders having names of their forefathers in the jamabandis want present owners to be recorded in the jamabandis or those land holders who want names of present land holders in the record of rights as well as also wish to execute partition. "There would be camps at the panchayats across the state twice during the mass campaign for collection of forms to correct certain entries in jamabandis from the land holders. Applications pertaining to any correction to be made by land holders would be distributed from August 16 onwards in all panchayats," said the ACS, revenue. Revenue officials said that the mass campaign is an attempt by the revenue department to sanitise the land records in a mass scale so that existing discrepancies could be removed and land holders have proper records in hand. On August 10, the revenue department has called a meeting of various government associations, including panchayat and sarpanch associations, in Patna to explain the objective of the mass campaign to be launched from August 16 and also seek their cooperation in conducting this exercise, which is a first of its kind initiative in recent years by the department. Officials also said that the mass campaign related to revenue or Rajaswa Maha Abhiyan would also help the ongoing land survey across the state with works and processes related to the survey having advanced in revenue villages in a large number of districts. "The sanitisation of the land records mainly jamabandi would help the land survey as there would be less discrepancies in the updated records after the survey is completed," said the ACS, revenue. There are a total 45 million jamabandis which are records of land held by land owners in the state. Once the campaign is over after the collection of forms from the land holders, we would dispose of the forms by making necessary corrections and completing other related processes in the next two to three months. That is the target," said another senior officer of the revenue department....
