Retired health official shot at in Gaya Ji distt
PATNA, July 20 -- In a shocking incident in Bihar's Gaya Ji district, a prominent doctor and retired health official, Dr Tapeshwar Prasad Singh, was shot and seriously injured by three unidentified bike-borne assailants on Saturday morning, police said. Preliminary investigations suggest a long-standing dispute between the victim and his son may be linked to the attack.
The incident occurred near Sheikhpura More under the jurisdiction of Sherghati police station. Police said the attackers fired three rounds at Singh, one of which struck him in the jaw, leaving him critically injured.
Singh, a former medical officer at the Sherghati sub-divisional hospital, was rushed to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMCH) for treatment. After his retirement, he had been running a private clinic in Sherghati.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fired at close range before fleeing. Police recovered a pistol believed to have been used in the attack, which reportedly fell from one of the assailants during their escape.
Gaya Ji Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anand Kumar told Hindustan Times that a police team reached the spot soon after receiving information and a probe has been launched based on CCTV footage to identify and arrest the culprits.
This is not the first time Singh has been targeted. On January 6, his residence was allegedly attacked with bombs. Police sources confirmed that Singh had earlier filed a complaint against his son, Dr Shashi Ranjan-also a medical professional-over a property dispute. He has two sons, one of whom is reportedly settled in the USA and may also be a suspect in the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar, citing the incident as another example of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state ahead of the upcoming assembly polls....
