PATNA, July 16 -- The Patna High Court has restrained the present chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Bihar branch from administrative work as the election process of the society for election of chairman, vice chairman and treasurer of the managing committee has started and the voter list is yet to be completed. The bench of Justice Purnendu Narayan Singh, while hearing petitions challenging the election without updated voter list, also directed that the members of Motihari unit of the Indian Red Cross, "whose names have not been deliberately scrutinised by the state chairman, to approach the Secretary General, National headquarters of the Indian Red Cross, within a week so that the election scheduled on July 21 was not impeded in any manner. "The court leaves to the Secretary General to exercise his jurisdiction to include the names of left out members . If he is unable to approve the names of members from Motihari, they may request the Governor for notifying the election on some other date. The date of election is in the knowledge of the Governor," said the court in its July 11 order, which was uploaded today. "It can be said that the doctrine of abuse of the process of law comes into play in the facts of the present case. The system should be governed by the rule of law. The action of the present chairman can only create an atmosphere of anarchy and corrode the basic objective of the I Dian Red Cross," said the order, after hearing the case of petitioners, including Motihari district branch head Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, whose names were missing from the voter list. The petitioners also sought the quashing of the entire election result of 2022 on the ground that it was held in violation of the norms. The election was challenged in 2023 also....
