Raghopur leader gunned down in Patna; Oppn RJD slams NDA govt
Patna, Sept. 12 -- A political leader-cum-social worker of Raghopur assembly constituency, Raj Kumar alias Ala Rai (52), set to contest upcoming state election from Raghopur as independent candidate, was shot dead in the state capital late on Wednesday.
The victim was earlier associated with RJD but he resigned from the party and contested the 2020 assembly election. He had also fought mukhia and district board member's elections twice but lost. Police suspect land dispute or monetary dispute with a Patna-based builder to be the reason for the murder. No arrest has been made so far. Police have recovered six spent cartridges from the spot.
Police said the incident took place opposite Rajendra Nagar terminal at 10 pm when two bike-borne miscreants opened fire at him. According to city SP(East) Parichay Kumar, Rai ran to hide in a nearby restaurant. However, the assailants chased him and fired eight bullets at him. He was soon rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him dead.
RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad said, "Raj Kumar was an active party worker. The Nitish Kumar government has miserably failed to check the deteriorating law and order situation."...
