Property dealer shot dead in Katihar distt
KATIHAR, July 1 -- A 40-year-old property dealer was shot dead when he was returning home in Bihar's Katihar late Sunday night. The incident has caused strong resentment in the business community and they have threatened protests if the culprits are not arrested soon. Police suspect professional rivalry behind the incident.
The victim identified as Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Chhitabari had the business of tent and property dealing in the Katihar town area.
According to police, Kumar was returning home on his motorcycle around 11.30 am when the assailants near Chandrama Chowk under Muffasil police station stopped him and fired at him from close range, killing him on the spot. He was hit by five bullets.
Soon locals hearing the gunshots reached and informed the police who rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Police recovered four empty cartridges besides a bottle of liquor on the spot suggesting that the assailants had consumed liquor before committing crime.
The deceased, the youngest among three sons of Dhani Sah, also a businessman, left behind him his son and a daughter besides his widow.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Abhijeet Kumar Singh said, "We have started a probe from all possible angles and all the CCTV footages are being examined to ascertain the identity of the killers." He added, "Personal or professional rivalry may be the reason behind the incident." The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.
FIR has not been lodged yet but police have started recording the statements of the family members to reach the culprits....
