Probe points to intra-gang rivalry
PATNA, July 19 -- The Bihar Police on Friday said that initial investigations into the sensational murder of out-on-parole notorious gangster Chandan Mishra at a Paras Hospital in the state capital on Thursday morning suggest to a rivalry within the gang he was associated with.
Meanwhile, the police has also identified one of the shooters as Tauseef Raja alias Badshah who was seen in the hospital CCTV image as leading the team of shooters and was without a cap unlike others. His photographs and social media profiles are doing rounds online since Thursday. he is said to have been discerned from from a political poster where he was described as a social worker could be seen alongside the then Union minister Pashupati Nath Paras and other senior political leaders such as Surajbhan Singh, Mehboob Ali Kaiser, and several MPs.
This has raised suspicions about Badshah's political ambitions, with police not ruling out that he may be cultivating a "Robin Hood" image by having a criminal profile and at the same time being active as a pro-people figure.
"The entire conspiracy was hatched inside Purulia Jail in West Bengal, where another gangster, Omkarnath Singh alias Sheru Singh, is currently lodged," police said.
Chandan Mishra, who was out on parole for medical reasons, was shot dead by unidentified assailants inside the hospital where security seemed non-existent and assailants faced no resistance.
Shooers, led by Badshah, reached room number 209 on the second floor of the hospital as if they were completely familiar with its building's layout, breaching security with alarming ease.
Investigators said six assailants arrived on two motorcycles, with five entering the hospital fully armed while one stayed outside as lookout. CCTV footage later captured the gunmen celebrating their act outside the hospital before speeding away on motorcycles around 7.15 am.
The footage also showed four of the assailants wearing caps, loading their pistols, and executing the hit with precision.
Following the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under the supervision of City SP (Central) Diksha, and the Special Task Force (STF) was also roped in for support.
"Chandan had a prior conflict with Sheru while both were lodged in Bhagalpur jail. We suspect the murder was a direct fallout of that gang rivalry. The two had earlier jointly committed crimes in Bhojpur and Buxar districts. After their conviction in a businessman's murder case, they parted ways for unknown reasons," a senior officer said....
