Priyanka to join rally in Bihar on Aug 26-27
PURNIA/ARARIA, Aug. 25 -- In a move set to energise the Opposition's campaign against the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged bid for "vote chori", All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is slated to join the "Voter Adhikar Yatra", led by Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, in Supaul on August 26.
Apart from Priyanka, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin would also join the rally, said former Bihar Congress president and Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh. "Stalin will join the yatra on August 27," he said.
According to AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal, Priyanka will spend two days in Bihar (August 26-27), actively participating in events in Supaul and Sitamarhi.
Party insiders reveal that her visit is cleverly aligned with Hartalika Teej - a cherished festival for married women in Bihar - aiming to erode chief minister Nitish Kumar's traditional support base and rally female voters in the heart of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)'s strongholds.
Launched on August 17 from Sasaram, the yatra focuses on combating electoral irregularities in the lead-up to the 2025 Bihar assembly elections. Priyanka's involvement is poised to amplify the Opposition's drive, particularly in Supaul - a Lok Sabha seat once held by Ranjeet Ranjan, spouse of Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan (Pappu Yadav). Priyanka is likely to emphasise women's empowerment, tapping into Teej's cultural significance, where women fast for their husbands' well-being.
On August 27, Priyanka plans to offer prayers at Sitamarhi's revered Janaki Temple, forging a deeper connection with Bihar's "aadhi abadi" (half the population). This strategy echoes Congress's recent Lok Sabha triumphs in Shahabad, now targeting the NDA's northern Bihar fortress. "We're leaving no stone unturned to secure victory," a senior Congress source stressed, underscoring Priyanka's pivotal role in countering voter suppression and mobilising women.
With Priyanka's high-profile entry, the yatra is gearing up to champion clean voter lists and democratic integrity, potentially tipping the scales in Bihar's electoral arena as voting approaches in October and November....
