PATNA, May 22 -- The Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Ltd (Comfed), known by the brand name Sudha, has increased its milk price by Rs.2-3 per litre in Bihar and Jharkhand, according to a press release issued in Patna on Wednesday. The new prices will be effective from Thursday. The Comfed had last revised its price in April 2023 when the milk price was increased between Rs.2 and 3, said Rupesh Raj, managing director, Patna Dairy Project (PDP). The price of Sudha Gold, its pasteursied full cream milk, having 6% fat and 9% solid not fat (SNF), which essentially comprises protein, carbohydrate, mineral and vitamin, and Sudha Healthy, the pasteurised toned milk variant, having 3% fat and 8.5% SNF, had increased by Rs.3 per litre to cost Rs.65 and Rs.52, respectively. Similarly, the price of Sudha cow milk (3.5% fat and 8.5% SNF) and Sudha Shakti (4.5% fat and 8.5% SNF) , a standardised milk, meaning it has a higher fat content than toned milk, had increased by Rs.2 per litre from Rs.52 to Rs.54 in case of cow milk and from Rs.55 to Rs.57 for Sudha Shakti. The price of Sudha Delight milk, having 4.6% fat and 9.6% SNF had also gone up by Rs.2 per litre from Rs.60 to Rs.62. The Sudha Delight variant, launched in December last year, is suited for tea, coffee and curd, said officials. The price of Sudha Smart, which has the least 1.5% fat content and 9% SNF had also increased by Rs.1 per 500 ml pack to now cost Rs.25. Sudha does not sell its Smart milk variant in a one litre pack. "Sudha Gold (34%), Sudha Shakti (31%) and Sudha cow (29%) make for 94% of our liquid milk sale, while the other three brands like Sudha Delight, Sudha Healthy and Sudha Smart comprise 6% of sales in Patna market," said Raj.
