PATNA, Jan. 16 -- With the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) presenting a disappointing picture of children below eight years in terms of age-appropriate skills, Rukmini Banerji, CEO, Pratham, an NGO which has been conducting the survey for the last 15 years, on Wednesday underlined the need to focus on pre and early schooling, with greater awareness among mothers.

In Bihar, the silver lining is that girls' enrolment at the secondary and higher secondary level has almost reached the level of boys, covering a huge gap in the last one decade. This could lead to more educated and aware mothers in future.
