Poor marks for not talking to teacher on phone, probe ordered
BHAGALPUR, May 30 -- The vice chancellor (VC) of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) has directed a probe against a professor on the basis of the complaint of a student who alleged that she was awarded poor marks as she refused to talk to him on phone.
She alleged in her complaint that the teacher had mentally harassed her by threatening her of giving poor marks.
VC Prof Jawahar Lal, who took the complaint of the student seriously, constituted a three-member team to conduct a probe on the allegations levelled by the student against the teacher and asked the team to complete and submit the probe report within 24 hours.
"We are conducting the probe with transparency and impartiality and if the teacher is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him," he said, adding "No injustice will be done to anyone."
The student of semester -4 of the department of History in her complaint alleged that Prof Ravi Shankar Chaudhary continuously forced her to talk to him on phone and when she refused, he started threatening her.
She alleged that he mentally harassed her by giving poor marks to her.
"I got just 37 marks out of 70," she said, adding "Prof Chaudhary teaches the subject."
She alleged that the teacher awarded good marks to his near and dear students and claimed that he himself played truant and attended the class only two days a week.
"I hope justice will prevail," she said with visible disappointment and frustration.
On the other hand, the teacher in question, while rejecting outright all the allegations of the student, said, "The answer sheets are duly coded to maintain secrecy and hence no question arises of any prejudice or discrimination."
He claimed, "Marks were cut to those students whose attendance in the class was found to be consistently low and academically unsatisfactory."...
