PATNA, Oct. 6 -- Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday inaugurated a state-of-the-art international cricket stadium at Rajgir Sports Complex, built at an estimated cost of Rs.1,121-crore, days ahead of Bihar election announcement. The stadium, around 100 kms from Patna, is expected to host fixtures of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and international matches in near future. The stadium, with 40,000 seating capacity and 13 pitches, is said to the second biggest after the Narendra Modi Stadium at Ahmedabad and is equipped with all the state-of-the-art facilities to add to a major sporting hub that Rajgir is being developed into. Some work at the stadium is still incomplete and officials said they would be completed soon. Nitish Kumar Cabinet had earlier approved transfer of the management of the new stadium, spread across 18 acres, to Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), which is affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to clear the decks for hosting big matches. The foundation stone of the stadium was laid on October 12, 2018 by Nitish Kumar. After inaugurating the stadium ground and pavilion, the CM, accompanied by Dy CM Samrat Choudhary, also distributed appointment letters to 87 sportspersons.
