Police station attack case in Bihar's Rohtas: 39 sent to jail
SASARAM, Aug. 2 -- Police registered three cases on Friday against 39 named and over 200 unidentified persons for allegedly launching a murderous attack on police and administrative officials during a violent incident at Dinara police station in Bihar's Rohtas district.
On Thursday, a mob of more than 200 people attacked the Dinara police station, injuring over half a dozen officers, including a DSP, an Inspector, two SHOs, and two sub-inspectors. Several other personnel also sustained injuries. Police vehicles were damaged, and furniture inside the station was vandalised as the mob resorted to heavy stone-pelting and used traditional weapons, officials said.
Superintendent of police (SP) Raushan Kumar said the violence stemmed from a land dispute in Belwaiyan village, where one Shivji Singh alias Babua Singh was ploughing his land with a tractor for paddy transplantation.
This action was taken after the Patna High Court overturned an earlier administrative order that had declared the land as excess under the Land Ceiling Act and redistributed it to landless individuals.
"The opposing party did not pursue legal remedies and instead tried to turn the matter into a law-and-order issue, attacking police officers and the police station without any justification. Such acts of lawlessness will not be tolerated and will be dealt with firmly," said SP Raushan Kumar.
Three FIRs were lodged under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 109 and 353, based on statements from the Circle Officer of Dinara, a local revenue official, and injured sub-inspector Kaushal Kumar Kaushik. These officials were deployed at different locations to help control the situation.
All 39 named accused were arrested and sent to jail on Friday. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the remaining accused using CCTV footage and local intelligence, the SP added.
A fourth FIR was registered against landowner Shivji Singh based on a complaint by Subhas Paswan, a resident of Belwaiyan village.
Paswan alleged that his brother, Anish Kumar, sustained bullet injuries during firing by Singh and his men.
However, the SP clarified that the doctor who examined Anish Kumar found no evidence of a gunshot wound.
"The men accompanying the injured individual allegedly pressured the doctor to falsely label the injury as a gunshot wound and to refer him to a higher medical facility," the SP said....
