PATNA, Aug. 15 -- Fifteen personnel of Bihar Police have been conferred police medals on the eve of Independence Day. While seven officers, including DIG Babu Ram, were awarded the Medal for Gallantry (GM), two were awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and six including IG Garima Malik got the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM). The GM awardees are DIG Babu Ram (currently on central deputation in CISF as security in-charge, DMRC), sub-inspectors Saket Saurabh, Ram Raj Singh, Tarbabu Yadav, constables Sanjay Kumar Choudhary, Surendra Paswan and Vikas Kumar. Officials of police headquarters said that during his posting in Maoist-hit Aurangabad district in 2016 as SP, Babu Ram led many successful operations with the help of other GM awardees. The police force led by Babu Ram confronted ultras in the forests of Chhakarbandha. Police team under the leadership of Babu Ram ran a joint operation with the COBRA battalion of CRPF. They ambushed the Maoists sitting right on the top of the hill. According to the information provided by police headquarters, despite suffering the first loss in an IED explosion, the SP and his team went up the hill anf forced the Maoists to run to forests for shelter. Three Maoists were killed and four sophisticated weapons and other materials were confiscated by the police team. It was a highly courageous operation as Maoists were up the hill and it was almost second to impossible to overpower them there. The SP, according to PHQ, bled from the front and boosted the morale of his colleagues and it was only because of his leadership that such a fearsome operation was conducted successfully. The PSM awardees are Saran range DIG Nilesh Kumar and STF SP Sanjay Kumar Singh. Those conferred with the MSM are - Vigilance Investigation Bureau, IG, Garima Malik, AIG (welfare) Smita Suman, DSP Rajesh Ranjan, Havildar Bimal Chhetry, ASI Ashish Ranjan Singh and constable Sarvesh Kumar....
