PATNA, Feb. 12 -- A youth, who was preparing for recruitment in Bihar police, was allegedly kidnapped, drugged and forced to marry a girl in Samastipur district. A related video of the incident, that reportedly occurred at Chakraj Ali village of Shahpur Patori police station area, went viral on social media, said people in the know of the matter on Wednesday. The video shows the youth, later identified as Nitish Rai (23) in unconscious state during the wedding rituals. During the 'Varmala' process, a youth forcibly holds Nitish's hand and puts the garland around the bride's neck. When the groom regained consciousness, he found himself locked in a room, police said. In a police complaint, the youth alleged his three friends had mixed intoxicating pills or liquor in the cold drink. Nitish also upload a video narrating that he had been victimised. He claimed the incident took place on February 7, when he was on way to library. As soon as he arrived near the library, some of his villagers forcibly took him away, drugged him, assaulted and then forcibly married him at a Khudaneswar Asthan temple in Morva block. Nitish alleges that after the marriage, he was locked in a room so that he could not contact anyone. "When I was getting married, I had no idea what was going on. I don't even know who and where I got married. I don't know what was mixed in the cold drink. But I wasn't conscious. I was locked in the room, beaten up and threatened to accept the marriage. Police have rescued me from the girl's house," claimed Nitish. The complaint was lodged with Shahpur Patori police station against named and unknown persons. Nitish's mother Sushila Devi said he left home to attend library but did not return home till late in the night. When the family started searching for him, they got information that some people from the village had taken him away for marriage. "In the wedding process, Nitish's health suddenly deteriorated and he fainted. Despite this, people caught him and completed the rituals," she stated. However, police said they received information about the incident through media. The matter is being investigated on the basis of the viral video and necessary action would be taken after verifying the facts. SHO of Shahpur Patori police station Anil Kumar said, "Police are trying to ascertain whether the marriage was mutual or forced. The veracity of the claims made in the video is also being probed"...
