PATNA, June 12 -- In yet another killing in the state capital - the fifth in the last 48 hours - armed criminals shot at two men in Mainpura locality under Pataliputra police station's jurisdiction. One of the victims, identified as Raja Kumar (22), was killed, while the other, Jitendra Kumar (18), sustained serious injuries. City SP (Central) Sweety Sherawat said the incident took place around 12:30 am when the victims were travelling to an unknown destination. As they reached Mainpura gate number 44, unidentified criminals on a motorcycle fired at them from point-blank range. Raja Kumar was declared brought dead at PMCH, while Jitendra-who has a previous criminal history-remains in critical condition at the hospital. "Jitendra is unable to speak at the moment. Once he can talk, we'll ascertain the motive," Sherawat said. According to Raja's brother Amir, Raja ran a small shop and had recently been threatened for extortion by Amit alias Maiddy. "Raja and Jitendra resisted his demands. Enraged, Amit returned with accomplices and shot at them indiscriminately," Amir told police. Raja sustained bullet injuries in his chest and back, while Jitendra was shot in the stomach. An FSL team visited the spot and collected samples, and police have begun reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits. This incident comes amid a recent spike in violence in Patna.
