PIL, economic blockaDe against Saranda sanctuary
Jamshedpur, Oct. 17 -- At least two tribal organisations have planned to file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court against the formation of the Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary, people close to the development said on Thursday.
The tribal organisations have called for an economic blockade in West Singhbhum district on October 25 against the formation of the sanctuary in 314.68 sq km of the 853 sq km Saranda Reserve Forest.
"The Saranda Peed Manki (traditional tribal head of several panchayats and above a cluster of villages, Mundas) Lagora Deogam will file a PIL challenging the decision to form Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary (SWS). The SC two-member bench has ordered the formation of SWS and a conservation forest (CF) in about 130 sq km area in Sasandabudu in Saranda. We will go to a three-member SC bench... up to the constitution bench, if required. It will be a long battle, and we are preparing to fight it out.
