patna Lawyer's killing: 'Friend' of daughter, 7 others arrested
PATNA, July 16 -- Patna police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked the murder case of advocate Jitendra Mehta, who was shot dead in Patna City on July 13. The police arrested eight individuals, including the 'friend' of Mehta's daughter, who is alleged to have masterminded the killing. A pistol, two magazines, five live cartridges, 11 mobile phones, and the bike used in the crime were seized.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma said, "It is a major breakthrough for us. We solved the advocate's murder case within 48 hours of the incident by arresting eight criminals involved in the conspiracy."
According to the SSP, the investigation revealed that Mehta's daughter was in a relationship with one of the main accused, Mohammad Shoaib alias Sonu, which the advocate disapproved of. He had even reprimanded his daughter for continuing the relationship. "Shoaib, frustrated by the situation and wanting to maintain his relationship with Mehta's daughter, conspired with his associates to eliminate the advocate. On Sunday, they executed their plan and gunned down Mehta," Sharma said. Based on Shoaib's confession, police arrested the other accused: Aditya Kumar alias Vishu, Niranjan Kumar alias Lucky, Nandan Kumar, Akash Kumar alias Lalu, Mohammad Ali, and Himanshu Kumar. Their arrests were made using technical and scientific evidence, the SSP added.
The investigation revealed that Shoaib had married Mehta's daughter in court - his second marriage - but she was unaware of the murder plot and is not being treated as a suspect. The police also found that shooter Aditya was paid Rs.1.5 lakh to carry out the killing.
Mehta, a resident of Mohammadpur under Sultanganj police station limits, was shot dead on Sunday while returning home after having tea near the Training College. Armed assailants surrounded him and opened fire, killing him on the spot....
