Patna: MBBS student detained in nursing student suicide case
PATNA, May 13 -- A fourth-year MBBS student of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH), Bhagalpur, on Monday has been detained on the charges of abetment to suicide after a BSC nursing student, allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself at a lodge, located at SM College road falling under Barari police station area of Bhagalpur district late on Saturday night.
There was no suicide note from the deceased but the man was detained by the police after the victim's father accused him of harassment.
The victim was a resident of Rajaun in Banka district while the MBBS student is a native of Arwal district.
Police said both fell in love with each other. Victim's father in his complaint alleged that the MBBS student, a native of Parsadi English (Arwal) and a fourth year student of JNMCH lured his daughter on the pretext of marriage and developed physical relationship and filmed the act. "He often blackmailed and threatened her to upload the footage on social media," said slain father adding that the MBBS student allegedly kill her elsewhere and body was hanged her body to show as suicide. Sometimes he took her to his hostel and other places and beat her up," said the father in his complaint.
SHO of Barari police station Bittu Kumar Kamal said police lodged an FIR against the MBBS student, who has been detained for further interrogation. Police obtained call data records of the victim to ascertain the reason behind the extreme step. A four member team of medical board conducted her autopsy which reports are awaited.
"The father of the girl submitted a complaint on Monday and subsequently an FIR under BNS Section 108 for abetment of suicide was filed. We have investigated the case from all possible angles," the SHO added.
Police familiar with the matter said the two had been in a relationship for two years but had parted ways. "Preliminary probe shows the woman told her family about her relationship, but they did not approve of the match which upset her," the officer said.
Superintendent of JLMCH Dr Hemshankar Sharma said the reported incident occurred outside the campus. "We have no idea about police action against any MBBS student," he said....
