Patna: Man stabs girlfriend to death; arrested
PATNA, May 17 -- Police on Friday arrested a married man who stabbed to death his girlfriend and tried to set her body on fire on Thursday late evening at posh S K Puri area of the state capital.
In a bid to make it appear like a fire accident, the man tried to set on fire her body but flame was doused. The police arrested the accused, identified as Suraj Kumar on Friday and claimed that he killed the woman, Sanjana Singh, over a personal dispute. Suraj and Sanjana were class fellows since Class 6. Both were residents of Saba locality in Muzaffarpur.
Sanjana lived alone in a rented accommodation at Anandpuri locality of SK Puri police station area of the state capital since January this year. Her body was found in mysterious circumstances late on Thursday evening.
City SP (Central), Sweety Sahrawat said that a half burnt, blood-soaked body of woman was found at her bedroom located on the second floor of the rented house of retired government official Rajeshwar Prasad, who informed about the incident. When police team arrived at the spot they found that the upper part of body was burnt and blood stains were found from the spot.
During investigation, house owner informed that a male friend of Sanjana usually came and met her. Police collected some CCTV footages, in which a suspect later identified as Suraj Kumar said to be friend-cum-villager of Sanjana, arrived the place at around 1pm and returned three hours later. "Acting on a tip-off a police team raided a place at Vaishali district and caught Suraj Kumar. During interrogation, he confessed the crime. Suraj admitted that he attacked Sanjana with a scissors. Later he pulled LPG cylinder from the kitchen, its pipe deliberately opened aiming to set her on fire," said City SP, adding that the postmortem report is awaited....
