Panic grips Gaya Ji as man resembling JeM suspect seen near famous temple
GAYA JI, Sept. 1 -- Panic gripped Gaya Ji late on Saturday evening after an unidentified man, whose face reportedly resembled one of the three Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists said to have entered Bihar through Nepal, was spotted roaming around the Vishnupad Temple.
Alert locals, noticing the suspicious activities of the bearded man, informed the Vishnupad police. Station House Officer (SHO) Dharmendra Kumar Yadav rushed to the spot, detained the man, and informed senior officials.
The suspect, about 35 years old, appeared mentally unstable and gave incoherent answers during interrogation. He was later identified as Jitu, son of late Mohanlal, a resident of Arya Samaj Sabzi Mandi in North Delhi. His family confirmed that he was mentally deranged and had been missing for some days.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anand Kumar said that the man was not found involved in any criminal or terror-related activities. His family members are on their way to Gaya to take him back home.
The incident came just two days after panic spread at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya-a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world's most important Buddhist pilgrimage centre-when a drone crashed inside the temple premises. The temple is a designated no-fly zone.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. It was later revealed that the drone belonged to a temple employee who lost control while learning to fly it. The Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) and police have strictly warned all staff and monks against using drones inside the premises.
The Mahabodhi Temple had earlier suffered damage in serial blasts that injured two Buddhist monks and three others.
The NIA investigation had traced the role of the Indian Mujahideen in that attack.
However, locals remain concerned over frequent security lapses at the highly sensitive Mahabodhi and Vishnupad temple complexes....
