Owaisi slams RJD, Waqf Act in campaign launch in Seemanchal
KISHANGANJ, May 4 -- All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi kickstarted his party's election campaign in Bihar's Kishanganj on Saturday, attacking the RJD for splitting his party in Bihar.
"You took away our four MLAs, and I must tell you, this time the people of Bihar will take away your ambition to grab power," he said, targetting the party headed by Lalu Prasad. Owaisi also exhorted the Muslims to come forward to oppose the Waqf (amended) Act.
Addressing a well attended public meeting at Bahadurganj, a strong bastion of the Congress party, he announced that four-time Congress ex-MLA Md Tauseef Alam would be his party candidate on the seat. Alam joined the AIMIM recently.
Attacking the RJD, Owaisi said, "Those who engineered the split in our party, the people of Bihar will drive them away from Bihar politics."
AIMIM had surprised political observers in 2020 Assembly elections by winning five seats out of 18 the party had contested. All the five seats it won were from Seemanchal districts. Later four of its MLAs deserted the party and joined the RJD in 2022. Now AIMIM has one MLA Akhatarul Iman left in Bihar and he is the party president of Bihar. He asserted that his party would win much more seats this time in the state polls slated later this year.
Addressing his first rally in Bihar to oppose Waqf Act, Owaisi condemned the Act and said, "Any attack on Waqf property won't be tolerated."
Akhatarul Iman said his party would be broadening its base and reclaim its lost ground. He reiterated AIMIM's commitment towards fighting Seemanchal's backwardness.
Apart from Seemanchal, the party is said to have fielded its candidates from other seats in Bihar as well. Muslims in Bihar constitute 18 per cent while Kishanganj has about 70 per cent Muslim population.
The party has also advocated for hike in reservation cap for Other Backwards Classes (OBCs).
The political atmosphere in Seemanchal has recharged following Owaisi's visit ahead of the Assembly elections.
Meanwhile JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad ruled out any impact of Owaisi in Bihar politics....
