Over 600 return from Nepal as curfew eases
BETTIAH, Sept. 12 -- Stranded for days during the ongoing chaos and disturbance in Nepal, a large number of people, including migrant workers, tourists and pilgrims from south India and other far flung states turned emotional after they entered India amid ease in curfew on Thursday.
East Champaran's district magistrate Saurabh Jorwal said, "Those stranded were allowed to come into the Indian territory and Nepali nationals to their respective country." He, however, refused to divulge the numbers of the persons who crossed the border to their respective countries.
However, according to the records available with the 47th battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal at Raxaul, around 600 Indian nationals struck in Nepal were brought inside the country through Indo-Nepal Maitripul in Raxaul on Thursday alone. "This apart, around 250 Nepali nationals were allowed to move to Nepal after verification of their identity from both of Indian and Nepali citizens," said an official.
Located about 230 km from the state capital, the Bharat Nepal Maitripul at Raxaul, a town in East Champaran district, was teeming with migrant workers and tourists who reached the border in small groups with a sense of relief writ on their faces....
